Sex, Love and Attitude

A discussion on teenage pregnancies leads into a debate on Indian women being expected to marry in their 20s. Shilpa says she comes from a very conservative and small community. But then several men she has been out with were progressive in their attitudes.

Jade: Are you progressive?

Shilpa: Of course I am (points out she is 31). We were brought up with the belief that you should get married...so when I had my first boyfriend we were very close and I thought this was the be-all-and-end-all for me...I think I'm someone who's not against premarital sex but I'm totally against someone who just has sex. I couldn't get into a physical relationship with someone if I wasn't emotionally attached

But the Bollywood actress has qualms about saying the S word.

Shilpa: 14-year-old girls know more about...

Ian: You can use the word, it isn't dirty

Shilpa: I don't usually say that word - I'm silly and say 'making love'

Jade: Having sex and making love is completely different

Jade and Shilpa: The War continues

The two women prepare to go to the mattresses (from The Godfather). This time, the war is over Jade, Jo and Danielle using four chicken stock cubes from Shilpa's shopping list.

Jade: So what, it's a stock cube, get over it. The other day a whole chicken went to waste because it was pink... Not only are you pathetic and fake, you're a liar

Shilpa: I don't want to fight

Even the chicken marinade prepared by Shilpa is rejected by Jade - apparently because Shilpa used her own recipe and not the one Jade preferred. The Bollywood actress vows to stay away from the kitchen from now on. Ian, who seems to be on Shilpa's side for some time now, asks her to forget about the chicken episode.

Shilpa says that the girls can't stand her because Dirk, Ian and Jermaine get along with her. Atta boy, Shilpa - you just hit the nail on the head.

Jade's diatribe in the Diary Room

Jade takes her long list of complaints to Big Brother in the Diary Room

1) Shilpa is getting on Jack's nerves
2) Shilpa's so controlling
3) Shilpa's screeching is getting to quite a few people. It's driving them mad
4) Shilpa's got an agenda. She says she's being herself but I think she's fooling people into thinking she's that type of person. It never seems sincere.
5) Whenever I speak to Shilpa she just cries. She's doing my nut in

Dirk, Shilpa and the broken hanger

Shilpa's hanging up clothes in the bedroom as Dirk watches. One hanger breaks and the chivalrous knight is immediately by Shilpa's side, offering to mend it.

Shilpa: No, please. I know you're really strong and all of that...

Dirk: Come here, I am really good at fixing things

Shilpa: Thank you! Are you gonna keep the hanger as well, to remember me by?

Ian: (in the background) Will she, won't she?

Dirk: Ian, I don't need any help from you

Ian: You flirt as much as you want ... Get a room you two. Get a room!

Later, Dirk teases Shilpa about the idea of them having a relationship.

Dirk: Tell them the truth, say if he was ten years younger, maybe

Shilpa feels that on the day of her eviction, the audience would probably chant 'Dirk, Dirk, Dirk' and that "age is no bar".

Shilpa, beware of the headbutt

A bitchfest is in session and as usual Shilpa is the lone target as she sleeps in the bedroom. Jade claims that Shilpa called her a commoner and asked her to get elocution lessons. That can't be true. Shilpa would never say that, would she?

Jade also accuses Shilpa of turning Dirk and Jermaine against her.

Jade: I think it's nasty and she's very very manipulative. Very. In my eyes she's a nasty piece of work. I look at her and I wanna headbutt her. I wanna wipe that smug look off her face

Jade is certain that Shilpa's personality is anything but the real thing.

Jade: Because I'm so not fake and genuinely real, I can see it

Jo: You're f****** bang on and I'm the fairest person in the world

Jack: Shall we go lift her up and put her in the garden, then lock the door?

Be on the lookout, Shilpa - there's no telling what these girls might do to you. Be it a Zidane headbutt or other stuff.

Jo and Jade also feel that Shilpa's claims of being a Bollywood actress might be a huge lie. If only these two had some Indian friends, they could have checked that out.

Jade: For all I know she could be someone from up Old Kent Road.. I don't know

The girls feel that Shilpa might also be a Big Brother spy. After all, the show has done this kind of thing before. Jo complains that Shilpa is getting special treatment and is always let into the Diary Room instantly while others are forced to wait.

Words of comfort and a dream

Shilpa emerges this morning wearing huge sunglasses to hide her eyes. Cleo Rocos and Jermaine Jackson try their best to comfort her. They feel that Jade Goody's behaviour towards Shilpa is just a clash of cultures. Even Shilpa says she appreciates Jade's honesty.

Meanwhile, the bitching session against the Bollywood star continues unabated. Jo O'Meara, Jade and Danielle Lloyd are making nasty remarks about yesterday's undercooked chicken and Shilpa being bossy.

Jade tells the others she had a nightmare in which Shilpa was kicking her and Shilpa's cousin came out of nowhere to pull Danielle's hair. Watch out Jade - that dream might just come true if you continue your tirade against Shilpa.

Danielle turns new leaf

Danielle goes to Shilpa in the bathroom and tries to reassure her that no one's got any bad feelings towards her. She doesn't want Shilpa to feel left out, she says. Has the disgraced former Miss Great Britain really turned over a new leaf?

Danielle has a case of make-up rash and Shilpa offers her some cream - an offer that is gratefully accepted.

Of the Taj Mahal and cleavage

Jermaine's curious about the Taj Mahal and Shilpa's trying to impress him. Shahjehan built it for his wife Mumtaz and then cut off the hands of the builders so that they could not replicate it.

Shilpa's proving to be quite a good ambassador for India. She certainly knows her History.

Ian asks her if it was taboo in India for women to show off their cleavage. Shilpa feels she has no problem with showing some cleavage as long as it's displayed tastefully.

Obstacle Course and a Wardrobe Malfunction

After a game of Chinese Whispers, the housemates dress for a so-called red carpet event. They have been given clothes to do so. And when Big Brother suddenly announces a Red Carpet Assault Course, they realise tuxedos and evening gowns are not appropriate for an obstacle race through a rubbish-filled VIP Pit, a Champagne Fountain and a Crawl of Fame.

But there's no time to change. Shilpa can't even take her contact lenses out. The Task - Complete the race in nine minutes and housemates receive a luxury shopping budget else basic rations. Alas! It takes them more than ten minutes to wade through all that slippery gunk. The high point was when the gushing fountain caused Danielle to have a wardrobe malfunction. Her dress slips down to her waist and the model is concerned that her accidental flash would be seen in all of Great Britain.

Shilpa and Dirk: The Wooing Game

Shilpa tells A-Team actor Dirk Benedict she was born in 1975. Dirk, smitten by Shilpa, says he was reborn in 1975. He says he's feeling cold but he can take the heat too (winks at Shilpa)

Flirting is on in full swing. Dirk wants to watch a film in which Shilpa plays a seductress.

Shilpa: You should see Dus. It means 10

Dirk: You did 10?

Shilpa: I was an ATC agent ... a very serious kind of movie. the first time ever a heroine did an action sequence. I jump and I kick

Dirk: When did you do that?

Shilpa: Two years back

The discussion turns to films they like. Shilpa feels Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill is over-rated though Pulp Fiction was good. Her favourite films are Serendipity and the Notebook.

Shilpa's Eeeeeeeek laugh

Jade and Jo are at it again. Seems they don't have anything else to do. Jade's imitating Shilpa's laugh. Eeeeeeeek. Jo says that Shilpa's laugh worries her a little bit. She apparently HAS to walk out of the room whenever Shilpa does her Eeeeeeeeek bit.

Budget Blues

As they failed in their task, the housemates are on basic rations and don't have a lot of money to spend. Jo feels Shilpa is very controlling while organising the shopping list.

At Night

Danielle's upset about the wardrobe malfunction of the evening and the others are atempting to console her.

Shilpa is telling Cleo Rocos it's funny how people end up fighting over tea and ketchup. But her spirits are up and she feels that as part of a team everyone has to do their best.

Love and Longing: Jermaine plays matchmaker

Jermaine and Shilpa are having one of their heart-to-hearts in the bedroom. The topic today - Marriage. Aishwarya Rai got engaged to Abhishek Bachchan but Miss Shetty doesn't know that yet. She's still looking for Mr Right.

Jermaine thinks Shilpa reminds him so much of his sister Latoyah (especially in the Afro wig Shilpa donned for the Jackson Five performance yesterday). Was a Hollywood actor in love with her too, Jermaine?

Shilpa is talking about the men in her life. Apparently, she was dating this actor and he wanted to get married. But she didn't want to and they eventually split up. Three months later, this actor (wonder which Indian hunk Shilpa is talking about) got married to someone else.

The Bollywood diva also had a long-distance relationship with a musician but it petered out because she was doing well while the musician (wondering who again) wasn't.

At this point, Shilpa questions Jermaine if men are intimidated by her. Jermaine says No, he admires her (emotional) strength.

Shilpa says she had been scared to tie the knot with her two former boyfriends.

Shilpa: I wanna get married. I have done for a long time

Jermaine: Dirk would marry you tomorrow. He's a nice guy

Shilpa: He's a very, very nice guy. I want to get married... but to the right person. Not just because...

Jermaine: He's (Dirk) about to walk through the door

The duo now chat about karma and Shilpa is convinced she will meet somebody in the end coz she hasn't caused anyone any harm yet.

Ouch! Shilpa says she cant believe she's been discussing her life in front of the cameras. A bit too late for that, isn't it?

Chicken tender

Miss Shetty's attempts to roast some chicken in the morning didn't go down too well with some housemates. The chicken was a wee bit undercooked and Danielle Lloyd was quick to seize a chance to be mean to the Bollywood actress.

The former Miss Great Britain claims she saw blood still inside the dish and tells Shilpa she ought to have been more careful.

Poor Shilpa doesn't understand why they make a fuss about her cooking all the time. She obviously can't survive on sandwiches.

Musicians Ian and Cleo talk to Shilpa about it. Ian feels Shilpa is being unnecessarily "picked on".

But Shilpa says that the unpleasant episode was just a difference of cultures.

Shilpa: But I tried not to let it affect me. I don't have anything against any of them.

Ian: You haven't done anything wrong Shilpa

Shilpa: Maybe we eat food differently. It's just a culture clash.

Maybe it is. Or maybe it's just plain ol' racism.

Will Yorkshire love Shilpa?

The conversation turns to Shilpa's plans to take a trip to Yorkshire in March. Shilpa is wondering whether people in Yorkshire would know who she is. Of course, says Ian - Big Brother is the biggest show on television. Believe it or not. Yes, we believe you Ian. And Shilpa, be sure you'll be mobbed during your Yorkshire trip.

Dirk and Shilpa

'The A-Team' star Dirk Benedict confesses he hasn't had a woman in his life for 15 years. Even his last date was a full two years ago. But why is he telling Shilpa this. The Indian diva is a bit slow on the uptake though.

Dirk's in a foul mood. It seems he's been feeling a bit bored ever since Leo and Ken exited the show.

Dirk: I'm sure girls' dormitories are like this. This is such a girlie show, that's why all the guys left. It drives you nuts!

Shilpa: I've not driven you nuts (sounds hurt)

Dirk: No

Ping-Pong anyone?

The Big Brother housemates have a new love for the day - Table Tennis. Shilpa spends hours playing with Dirk, Ian and Jermaine. The other girls are not interested and just watch the game. Didn't realise Shilpa was this good at table-tennis.

Of Mobiles and Mobile Surgery

Jermaine, Ian and Shilpa are discussing life in Big Brother with no contact with the outside world.

Ian: I miss my friends. I'm used to being away, that's part of the job, but I'm not used to having any contact. I miss my dog.

Shilpa says she probably needed to have her mobile "surgically removed".

Jermaine: It's probably good that you're not using it because of the radiation.

Bathing Suits on Big Brother

Shilpa reveals that singer Cleo Rocos has been wearing her swimming costume even while taking showers. Why? Because she suspects Big Brother has put cameras in the shower.

Maintaining dignity in Big Brother - that's the hard part. Shilpa feels the only one to do so on the show is Cleo. Anyway, Ian and Jermaine are sure Big Brother would never jeopardise their contracts in such a manner.

Diwali with the Elephant God

Shilpa is attempting to make Jade Goody understand the concept of the Hindu festival of Diwali. She has just introduced Rama when Jade interrupts. "Is that the elephant man?"

Just you wait Jade. Wait till the Shiv Sainiks find out you said that. Shilpa realises Jade has Rama all confused with Ganesha - and straightens things out.

A Whale of a question for Shilpa

As part of today's task, all the housemates have been given the task of going to the Diary Room and asking Big Brother a question they have always wanted the answer to.

The housemates are flummoxed. What should they ask Big Brother? Shilpa proposes asking which came first - the chicken or the egg. After several minutes in deep thought -

Jo: I've got my question - what is the lifespan of a sperm whale?

Shilpa: What's the lifespan of a what?

Jo: Of a sperm whale

Shilpa: Of a spom..?

Jo: A whale. A sperm whale is a type of whale

Shilpa: A wow? What's that?

Jo: Am I saying it wrong?

Jade: (to Shilpa) Beached whale, killer whale... like a dolphin

Jack: Have you seen Free Willy?

Jo: You really don't know what a whale is?

Jack: In the sea...

Jade: You know what a shark is don't you?

Shilpa finally gets it. "Oh - a whale". It turns out she couldn't understand Jo's cockney accent and kept hearing "Wow" instead. This bit of conversation had me in splits and the housemates loved it too.

Jade leaves Shilpa sobbing in the loo

All days do not end well. Night falls with Shilpa discussing the day's events with Jade. A genuine effort from both parties to clear the air.

Jade insists that her comments about Shilpa's cooking were not personal and that nobody is trying to isolate her. Jade says she can't read Shilpa - whether she is being fake, being real, or really upset.

Miss Goody asks Shilpa to take a step back in the kitchen department for her own benefit. Jade's scathing comments hurt Shilpa and she rushes off to the bathroom to cry her heart out. Her only solace - Cleo is there to try and comfort her in the dead of the night.

And if you though Jade was a meanie, here's what Danielle had to say about Shilpa earlier. "I'm f****** p****** off. I want to rip someone's head off. She's an annoying bitch."

Yes, Shilpa's Jackson Five group beat the Steps fair and square. (For contest story, click here)

The five - Jermaine, Shilpa, Dirk, Cleo and Danielle - were arrayed in gigantic Afro wigs and dresses from the 70s. Jermaine was obviously the best, considering he was part of the original Jackson Five - but it was also obvious he had coached his team well.

Shilpa's attempts to sing probably fell flat but then her enthusiasm was infectious.

"We sucked. That was terrible. That's the end of my career" - this was Shilpa's refrain at the end of the show.

But the giggling diva confessed that this had been the best task so far on Big Brother. Interestingly, Shilpa had never heard the Jackson Five song before. This is something that Jo finds hard to believe considering that even her five-year-old niece knows it.

When the public votes were counted, 75 percent had voted for the Jackson Five as opposed to Ian's Steps band. The winning band members (including Shilpa) were presented with a special gold disc and they led the housemates to celebrate a Jackson Five theme party - complete with chocolates and champagne.

Another special treat awaited the housemates. The Jackson Five perfomance by Jermaine and teammates was shown on the plasma screen. And the housemates went into a frenzy of cheers and giggles.

Show over, life on Big Brother settled back to normal. Housemates speculated that the losing group - Ian, Jo, Jack and Jade - will be automatically put up for eviction. There's been no word on that so far. But Shilpa feels that all housemates deserve something for their efforts and the game as such is a mean one.

Later in the night, Cleo and Shilpa are having a conversation about Paris.

For some mysterious reason the French capital depresses Shilpa and she refuses to confide in Cleo when asked whether she had been there with the "wrong" person. Nevertheless, it's nice to see Shilpa bonding with Cleo at a time when her relations with girls on the show are frosty at best.

Shilpa Shetty is now a member of the Jackson Five. At least on Big Brother. All the housemates have been divided into two groups (led by Ian and Jermaine) and asked to honour musical bands Steps and Jackson Five.

Each group performs a song along with a dance routine and the judging has been left to the viewers. Shilpa is in Jermaine's Jackson Five band which also includes Dirk, Cleo and Danielle. Together, they will perform 'I Want You Back'. Meanwhile, Ian's Steps band will perform a 'Deeper Shade of Blue'.

The task has managed to bring together the housemates and helped them to forget last night's unpleasant events (Danielle's drunken stupor in which she called Shilpa a dog and a cook). Now, it's practice, practice and more practice for the housemates. Both bands are sweating it out and enjoying it too.

Looks like Big Brother is intent on showcasing artistic talents within this human zoo. Yesterday, Shilpa was praised for her work on painting Leo Sayer in a mural. And today, the Bollywood actress is gung-ho about doing something that comes naturally to her - dancing. Though she confesses she's never heard of the songs before.

She's all praises for Jermaine's patience as an instructor. If I were one, I would have killed everyone, she says. Shilpa's enthusiasm is infectious and her group is focussing on enjoying themselves while they perform.

Jermaine in Confession mode

Jermaine confessed in the Diary Room that he felt responsible for last night's spat between Shilpa, Jade and Danielle. He said that though his intentions were good, he shouldn't have asked Shilpa to talk to Danielle when the disgraced model was drunk.

Shilpa is too wise to come between a friendship. I think Danielle's youthfulness provoked all this unintentionally. Shilpa is balanced. She knows how to handle ups and downs. I'm not here to change anyone's life. I'm not going out of my way. That's what Shilpa did and it got her into trouble.

Shilpa a saint?

Shilpa tells Jermaine and Dirk that Danielle's tirade against her was alcohol-induced and not deliberate. Someone is surely adopting a 'forgive and forget' policy.

Shilpa the shirker

Jermaine and Ian find a bad smell in the kitchen this morning. Shilpa's nose is blocked so she can't smell it. She remains a mute spectator as the two guys clean the kitchen. Is it a deliberate action to stay away from the kitchen, especially after Danielle referred to Shilpa as "just a cook" yesterday.

Shilpa can finally heave a sigh of relief as Dirk's not going anywhere. Columnist Carole Malone is the second person to be evicted from Big Brother. Looks like all of Shilpa's enemies are being slowly eliminated by viewers. In that case, next up for eviction are former BB contestant Jade Goody and disgraced model Danielle Lloyd.

Shilpa is finding it tough to bond with these two - just listen to these two bitching about the Bollywood actress.

Jade: She makes me feel sick. She makes my skin crawl

Danielle: She's a dog

Of course, Danielle was a bit drunk at a time. But Jade feels Shilpa is being patronising. Methinks that girls just find it hard to like our Shilpa.

Thank God, Jermaine Jackson thinks Shilpa has a future in Big Brother. In a philosophical mood, he says he's going to be voted out very soon (with Allah's help). Shilpa and Danielle will last for a long time, he says.

Shilpa tries her best to console Jermaine, telling him that one learns from every experience and that she is glad she met him because of Big Brother.

She says that life in Big Brother without Jermaine, singer Cleo Rocos and actor Dirk Benedict would be a nightmare.

Wednesday's Nominations Revealed

Shilpa may not be one of the three housemates with the most votes for eviction but that doesn't mean she didn't get nominated. Jade and boyfriend Jack took Shilpa's name as the person they most wanted out of Big Brother. As expected.

As for Shilpa, she nominated Jack (doesn't work and no use in the house) and musician Leo Sayer (who later left the premises on his own). Her reason for disliking Leo - verbal diarrhoea.

Later in the evening, a despondent Dirk Benedict tells Shilpa he needs to get a nice Indian woman. Does Shilpa need any more hints?

Another one bites the dust. It's funny how Big Brother is finding it difficult to hold on to its celebrity housemates. Rock star Donny Tourette and film director Ken Russell had already walked out. And today it was 58-year-old singer Leo Sayer's turn.

Leo broke down the door of the fire exit to make good his escape. He was apparently miffed over Big Brother's refusal to send him extra pairs of trousers and underpants.

The singer had been behaving weirdly this past week and even bared his bums last night to model Danielle and others.

Now Shilpa is worried that Jermaine is also thinking of escaping and requests him not to leave his friend behind.

She puts cream on her face (bleach?) and spends her time cooped up in the kitchen making lunch while the other housemates laze around outside. 'The A-Team' star Dirk Benedict is quick to join her and resume his wooing.

Dirk: I like your eyes, your laughter... everything
Shilpa: (laughs and calls out to Jermaine) I need help here
Dirk: Jermaine stay away

Meanwhile, Shilpa's efforts in the kitchen don't pay off as Jade, Danielle and Jo continue bitching about her and how she uses up too much stuff to cook.

Shilpa's safe for another week with actor Dirk Benedict, singer Leo Sayer and columnist Carole Malone figuring in the nomination list. One of them will be evicted from Celebrity Big Brother on Friday night.

(Nominations explained: Each housemate picks two housemates they would like to see evicted from the show. This is done anonymously in the Diary Room. The housemates who get the most votes are then put up for eviction by viewers)

But Shilpa now has to contend with new nemesis Carole. Somehow, when Jackiey was given the boot it felt as if Shilpa's troubles were over. But life in the Big Brother house isn't so easy.

Carole has been automatically nominated as punishment for discussing nominations with Shilpa and singer Cleo Rocos last week. But the columnist is miffed that the Indian actress wasn't punished for also being part of the conversation. And she made this quite clear to Shilpa.

Shilpa broke down in the face of this new accusation and the bathroom played host to a sobbing session with Jermaine (Michael Jackson's brother) ready to provide a shoulder for her to cry on.

Shilpa: I was never at fault

Jermaine: Keep your head up. Stay strong...When there's a lot of women in one place, there's always gonna be some tension

Dirk, who is otherwise depressed at being nominated, also kept up Shilpa's morale by continuing his non-stop flirting with her.

Earlier, Shilpa tried her best to console Carole by saying she won't be evicted.

Shilpa: Leo is loud, Dirk is boring. You're the only sane one.

Ouch! Do you really want Dirk to go, Shilpa? After all, wasn't he nominated by the other housemates for falling in love with you.

Meanwhile, Carole, former Big Brother star Jade and model Danielle are bitching about the Bollywood actress. They have decided not to like her at all. Jade and Danielle are mocking the way Shilpa speaks. Looks like Shilpa's going to face a lot of resentment from the girls in the coming days.

Danielle: Why do you have go? She's vile. Why didn't she go in there?

Carole: Someone they want to keep in, they don't even involve them

Later in the evening, Shilpa and Jermaine are having a heart-to-heart chat about the events of the day.

I'm more chilled out when I'm off camera. I can't do that now because I'll let down all the Indian people who want me to project my culture

Shilpa says Jermaine is a genuine person and says the kind of things Shilpa's mum would say to her.

Krishna says you do your karma, do what you have you do, don't wait for the fruits it will bear. People here don't belong to my culture. They don't understand my culture. I don't expect anything but politeness and love

Shilpa says that for the first time in her life, she is doing something without taking advice from her mother, father and sister. She recalls how she never even leaves her house in India without asking her parents. Even if a guy wants to take her out, he has to ask Shilpa's parents first. So, even being in Big Brother is a huge thing for her.
